Iceland’s Liberation Orchestra featuring Davíð þór Jónsson (IS)
Harpa, Norðurljós
Friday August 28
19:00
The Liberation Orchestra premieres a new piece by Haukur Gröndal, composed especially for pianist Davíð Þór Jónsson and the ensemble.
The work is approximately 50 minutes in length and unfolds in five movements. Throughout the piece, a rich palette of sonic colors, free improvisation, and written material come together in a compelling musical whole. Each voice within the ensemble is given space to shine, creating an intimate, almost telepathic interplay among some of Iceland’s leading jazz musicians.
Performers:
Davíð Þór Jónsson – piano
Haukur Gröndal – saxophone and clarinets
Sólveig Magnúsdóttir – flutes
Óskar Guðjónsson – saxophone
