Sölvi Kolbeinsson trio - collage (IS)

The trio led by saxophonist Sölvi Kolbeinsson performs music from the album Collage, released by Reykjavík Record Shop at the end of 2025. Collage is Sölvi’s first album consisting entirely of his own compositions. The music is experimental jazz, inspired by his time in Berlin and Copenhagen, as well as by returning home to Iceland.

The pieces are diverse and represent different moments and images, each with its own atmosphere and strong character. Together, these musical images create a whole — which is where the album title Collage comes from.

Joining Sölvi are guitarist Hilmar Jensson and percussionist/drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen.

The trio grew out of a duo project between Sölvi and Magnús. They were paired with Hilmar for the 2020 Jazz Festival, where they performed a highly acclaimed concert together. At first, they played some of their favorite compositions by other artists, but the focus soon shifted toward Sölvi’s original works. After performing more concerts and experimenting with different ideas, they entered the recording studio in December 2024.

Now the album has been released, and more music is on the way!
